An 80s-style roguelike

3D6
DELVE

Roll your hero on three six-sided dice. Step into the wireframe dark beneath the old keep. Every floor is new, every fight is real, and the Lich is waiting on level twelve._

Free to play. No install, no account, no ads. Now Build 17: sharper fighting, auto-run and a friendlier screen.

Old-school. Unforgiving. Yours.

3D6 Delve looks like 1981 and plays like the tabletop game it grew from: first-edition rules, honest dice, and a dungeon that does not care how attached you are to your hero.

01

Roll 3d6

Strength, Intelligence, Wisdom, Dexterity, Constitution, Charisma. Your rolls decide what you can be. Four classes to start, seven more to unlock by destroying the Lich.

02

A new dungeon every time

Mazes, rooms, secret doors, traps, shrines, riddles and prisoners to free. Each floor is built fresh, and each one goes deeper and darker than the last.

03

Fights you have to think about

Warbands with archers and shamans in the back row. Ogres that wind up a crushing blow. Stances, aimed blows, shoves, trips and class techniques to answer them.

04

Hire a party

Fighters, clerics and wizards for hire, each with a fee and a share of the haul. A porter to carry your loot home. Mentor them, or make one a partner.

05

A town to come back to

Sell your finds, have the smith forge your gear, buy a home, hear the tale of the keep in the tavern and try your luck at the card table.

06

Far below the keep

The Lich is only the beginning. The Underdark, the Eye Tyrant, the Demilich, and a portal to worlds beyond. Hardcore mode with real rewards, a Hall of Fame, and auto-play switches when you want to watch.

New in Build 17: sharper fighting, auto-run and a friendlier screen

Your Build 16 heroes carry straight over. The full story is in the player's guide.

01

Light and heavy

Two new attack styles. LIGHT lands far more often for half the damage; HEAVY lands half as often for double. Bows aim or draw full, fists jab or throw a haymaker.

02

Evade, then backstab

Thieves and Assassins can give up an attack to dodge. Come through untouched and you slip behind the foe for a backstab, any round. Backstabs never run out.

03

See the big one coming

When a brute winds up a crushing blow, a loud warning says what is coming and what answers it. When it lands, the screen shakes and tells you plainly that you were hit.

04

Auto-run and the stairs

Press a move twice (or double-tap it) and your hero keeps walking until something needs you. Standing on stairs shows a big GO UP or GO DOWN button.

05

Sound and settings everywhere

A volume box and the menu sit on every screen. Options explains each setting with ?, shows which build you have, and in the browser lets you choose portrait or landscape.

06

Keyboard in the browser

Play the web version with the same single keys as the PC. Plain words throughout: every blow says its damage, and armor class always counts up - higher is better.

White lines on black

Everything is drawn the way the early home computers did it: vectors, a fixed font, and your imagination filling in the rest.

A troll, an ogre and a wight face the party in a wireframe fight screen
Floor nine. A troll, an ogre and a wight. The cleric is already counting heals.
First-person wireframe corridor with the explored map beside it
Corridors in first person, your map drawn as you walk.
A hobgoblin chief and his warband with the moves and stance menu
A hobgoblin chief and his warband. Kill the chief and the rest may run.
The town of Hollowmere with its inn, shop, forge, tavern, guild, keep, home and dungeon entrance
Hollowmere: everything you need between delves.
The phone edition in portrait, showing a hobgoblin warband fight
The phone edition, upright.
The phone edition held sideways with a full-screen fight and thumb buttons on each edge
Turn it sideways: the whole screen is the dungeon, with thumb buttons on both edges. Tap a foe to target it, tap again to strike.

Skeletons, hobgoblins, ogres, owlbears, minotaurs, trolls, chimeras, hydras, dragons, and the Lich himself. More than a hundred kinds of trouble.

Two ways in

The same game, the same dungeon. Pick whichever fits where you are.

Your first delve

You will die. That is part of it. Here is how to die a little later.

  1. Roll a hero. A Fighter is the friendliest first choice.
  2. Buy potions in town, then walk into the dungeon.
  3. Camp at a campfire when hurt. It restores the whole party.
  4. Head home at half health. Gold in town is safe; gold in your pack is not.

Questions

Is it really free?

Yes. No ads, no purchases, no account. If you enjoy it, a donation is welcome but never required.

Will my progress carry between the web and PC versions?

Yes. Your profiles and heroes move between the PC and web versions.

Do I need to know the tabletop rules?

Not at all. Press ? (or tap it) and then anything on screen for a plain-English explanation with your own numbers.

Can it play itself?

Auto-play can fight your battles while you walk, and run your town errands with one tap. Tap any time to take a turn yourself.

What does "3d6" mean?

Three six-sided dice. It is how heroes were rolled in the old days, and how yours are rolled here.
